Quote from Mary Kate

Watching my parents I’ve learnt a lesson many do not recognize. True love is not signaled by romantic, candle light dinners, red roses glistening with dew, or even Valentine’s day celebrations. While these things may accompany our feelings, love is truly more than all those! Love is being with your spouse even when its not pleasing. Sometimes, love is walking down the hall, with your spouse hanging onto your shoulders and walking at a turtle’s pace down the hall, just because surgery made life a burden. Love is patient, love is kind, love is Jesus! May we always remember love is not always tied in bows!

Perpetua: A Bride

Quote from Amy Rachel Peterson, Perpetua: A Bride, a Martyr, a Passion

Our Scripture awakened that most glorious of things, the spontaneous love our Lord so desires His children to bear Him, for it is what He bears them.

Quote from Charles Kingsley

There is nothing more wonderful than a book. It may be a message to us from the dead, from human souls we never saw who lived perhaps thousands of miles away, and yet these little sheets of paper speak to us, arouse us, teach us, open our hearts and in turn open their hearts to us like brothers. Without books, God is silent, justice dormant, philosophy lame.

Steven Pinker The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined

Quote from Steven Pinker, The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined

The scriptures present a God who delights in genocide, rape, slavery, and the execution of nonconformists, and for millennia those writings were used to rationalize the massacre of infidels, the ownership of women, the beating of children, dominion over animals, and the persecution of heretics and homosexuals. Humanitarian reforms such as the elimination of cruel punishment, the dissemination of empathy-inducing novels, and the abolition of slavery were met with fierce opposition in their time by ecclesiastical authorities and their apologists. The elevation of parochial values to the realm of the sacred is a license to dismiss other people’s interests, and an imperative to reject the possibility of compromise.

The World-Tilting Gospel: Embracing a Biblical Worldview & Hanging on Tight

Quote from Dan Phillips, The World-Tilting Gospel: Embracing a Biblical Worldview & Hanging on Tight

How does “Let go and let God” measure up against Scripture? Remember, the test isn’t what sounds deep, what sounds holy, or even what makes sense to us. For the Christian, the test is Scripture.

Anonymous Study Bible: NIV

Quote from Anonymous, Study Bible: NIV

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:a time to be born and a time to die,a time to plant and a time to uproot,a time to kill and a time to heal,a time to tear down and a time to build,a time to weep and a time to laugh,a time to mourn and a time to dance,a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,a time to embrace and a time to refrain,a time to search and a time to give up,a time to keep and a time to throw away,a time to tear and a time to mend,a time to be silent and a time to speak,a time to love and a time to hate,a time for war and a time for peace.(Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, NIV)

Quote from Craig Olson

We take a cavalier approach to Scripture at our own peril. If the scientific and historical accounts are true, then the commandments, promises and penalties are much more so. The Bible is not just a guideline. It is the authoritative Word of God. Disobeying it has consequences. Obeying it has rewards. Yet we fudge. We compromise. We rationalize. We trade away our spiritual integrity for man’s approval and as we do, we gradually erode our ability to distinguish right from wrong, to see our own failings, and to turn back in repentance to God. We simply have no idea how this cavalier attitude towards God’s Word taints our witness and hinders the kingdom of God.

For to speak the truth, there are but few that care thus to spend their time, but choose rather to be speaking of things to no profit.

Quote from University of Navarra, The Navarre Bible: Wisdom Books

The wise men posit questions to which they may not always find immediate answers, but through their reflections God stimulates man in his search for truth – which in the last analysis is a search for God himself.

R.C. Sproul The Prayer of the Lord

Quote from R.C. Sproul, The Prayer of the Lord

I think the greatest weakness in the church today is that almost no one believes that God invests His power in the Bible. Everyone is looking for power in a program, in a methodology, in a technique, in anything and everything but that in which God has placed it—His Word. He alone has the power to change lives for eternity, and that power is focused on the Scriptures.
